School fee programme

School fee programme in general
THOYODO has been approached by many school going children who can't afford paying for their school fees because some are orphans, and in single parent families who still can't afford to pay for them.
Currently we have 45 students whom we linked to well wishers to pay for them and they pay for them. Some of these are in Community day Secondary schools and they need only need $55.00 per year to access education whilst a minimum of $100.00 to those in Boarding schools.
As an organisation we are more committed to assist the Children hence making the appeal to solicit funds for the school children as well as link them to their would be sponsors.
A sponsor is free to assist through THOYODO or be linked to prospective schools where the children are.
We are also looking for book sponsorship for our community library where children can read and study during their free time and holidays.

Stories of the students

Chiyembekezo Magalasi

Our immediate concern is Chiyembekezo Magalasi of Makupete Village in Zomba who excelled during the primary school examinations. He was selected to go and study at a National Secondary School but his future looked bleak when his guardian could not raise K65,000.00 (~US$165.00) for his school fees. THOYODO through appeals which were sent out by its  Board Members managed to raise such funds for the past two terms but this time around there is no money to send the boy for the third term. The school Chiyembekezo up to the end of the month of May or he would be sent back home. We have not managed to raise the money up to now. Therefore, any assistance towards Chiyembekezo will be highly appreciated.

For the semester starting September this year, we expect some of the best performing students that we are supporting at household level to excel and be selected to start secondary school. This brochure highlights only a few of the pupils who will need support at the beginning of September.

Falesi Mwamadi

Falesi Mwamadi is a 13 year old girl from Kachingwe Village in T/A Chikowi , Zomba. She will be completing her primary school at Likhubula School. She is the first born in a family of four, abandoned by a father who trekked to South Africa six years ago, leaving the mother to fend for the children on her own.

THOYODO identified Falesi as an excellent student during our Inter-Schools Quiz Contest. She was the best in the competition which brings together students from nine schools from the Thondwe area. However, the future does not look so bright for the young Falesi who aspires to be a medical professional. One day, Ziya Tsamwa, Director of THOYODO, found Falesi selling lemons on her mother’s behalf so that they could have food in their home. Obviously, the helpless mother will not be able to raise K65,000.00(~US$165.00) per term to see Falesi through her secondary school education.

Yamikani Amadu

Sixteen year old Yamikani Amadu was the best science student during the THOYODO Inter-School Quiz Contest. She is an orphan and stays with her aunt. Both her parents died after they had already divorced. An under-five mobile clinic is conducted close to her home and she says she would like to complete her education with a medical qualification so that she comes back to serve poor people of her village. Yamikani admits she has a problem with the English subject but she is optimistic that if she goes to a school with adequate facilities, she will realise her dream. Her favourite subjects include Science, Maths and Life Skills. Sadly, her aunt cannot afford to pay for all of her fees for secondary school because, apart from Yamikani, the aunt looks after three other orphans and her own four children. She is also divorced.

Felistus Neeva

Another young girl who cherishes the dream of becoming a nurse in future is Felistus Neeva of Malangwi village in the same traditional authority of Chikowi. She is another high scoring Science student who was born sixteen years ago. She is the fifth born in a family of eight.

Her father died while she was three and her mother remarried but is now divorced and struggling to support the children. Her elder sister got married at age fifteen and has two children from a polygamous husband. THOYODO is her only hope for financial support to take her through secondary school.
