ABOUT THOYODO

THOYODO means Thondwe Youth Skills Development Organisation. It is a Malawian, community based youth organization in Thondwe. The organization is working for youth, women, orphans and the elderly, in total there are 4500 beneficiaries. Thoyodo is depending on volunteers, members contribution and Well wishers from within the area (Thondwe) or from Belgium and Holland. The organization was founded in 2005 and registered 2010. THOYODO serves the people of Zomba-Thondwe, Zomba - Changalume and Zomba- Ntonya and surrounding areas.

Mission statement

The mission statement of Thoyodo is contributing youth towards social, political and economic development of the nation, Malawi. There are several objectives:

• To assist young people to participate in sporting
• To encourage young people to in life and vocational skills towards self-reliance
• To educate young people on dangers, prevention, care and support on HIV/AIDS
• To educate young people on their rights, freedoms, duties and responsibilities

To advocate for equal access to education among youths

Activities carried out:

THOYODO is organizing different activities:

• Youth participation and leadership
• Sports (football and netball) and games
• Gender and human rights
• Vocational and technical skills ( Welding,Carpentry, Tailoring and Electrical installation)
• Early child development and a nursery school (Early Childhood Development Center)
• Environmental conservation
• Sexual and reproductive health

Women empowerment
Educational support through school fee programme for vulnerable youths

Results
Since the funding of Thoyodo, they have already a lot of results:

• Distributed learning materials to pupils including orphans at St, Anthony Primary school and THOYODO ECD center
• Established Early Childhood Development Centre
• Increased number of pupils going to school, especially girls
• Increased access to HIV/AIDS information and prevention through participatory drama
• Increased youth participation in sporting activities and produced young talented players who have joined and playing in super league of Malawi
• increased citizen participation in community development activities at grass-roots level

Facilitated the improvement of sports in Thondwe area.

Future plans and challenges

• Construct a community youth Development centre in Thondwe
• Reach as many vulnerable youth, orphans, women and the elderly for improved lives whist reducing poverty levels which is high in the area
• Establish sustainable income generating activities (IGA). For example, welding and carpentry shop, agricultural farming or a maize mill

How can you help us?

THOYODO and its volunteers really want to help the youth in Thondwe and surrounding areas, we are working hard to create more possibilities and a better future for the youth. But of course to achieve this we do need a lot of funds to organize everything: renting a place for a youth center, buying materials for the nursery school and the sports, education the youth and their volunteers…

THOYODO really needs people who want to support their beautiful organization. When you want to support, you can contact the volunteers by e-mail (or by a letter). We will send you an e-mail back with our future activities and the fund we need for that activities. When you do support, you will get again an e-mail with the results of your fund and maybe some beautiful pictures of the activities you have sponsored!
